Program Agenda

Day 1:Introduction (Morning - 1 h)

• Welcome participants, give a short introduction among participants and provide an overview of the course objectives and agenda.
• Introduce the importance of supply chain sustainability and the role of GHG emission reduction in achieving sustainability goals.
• Build work teams to maximise learning (language, industry, function)

Session 1: Understanding Supply Chain Sustainability (Morning - 1.5 h)

• Define supply chain sustainability and its key components.
• Discuss the environmental, social, and economic impacts of unsustainable supply chains.
• Cover the differentiation of Scope 1, 2, & 3 and which role supply chain/procurement managers play in addressing the different scopes.
• Case studies highlight the consequences of GHG emissions on the environment and society.

Break (Morning - 15 min) 

Session 2: GHG Emission Reduction Strategies in Supply Chains  (Mid-day - 2 h) 

• Explain the concept of GHG emissions and their significance in supply chains.
• Discuss various GHG emission reduction strategies and practices and their merits.
• Explore examples of organisations successfully implementing emission reduction initiatives in their supply chains.
• Discuss applications in work teams.

 Lunch Break (Mid-day - 1h) 

Session 3: Assessing and Managing GHG Emissions in Supply Chains (Afternoon - 1.5 h)

• Introduce tools and methodologies for GHG emissions assessment.
• Explain how to conduct different forms of assessments (industry-based, commodity-based, supplier/company-based, product-based) to identify emission hotspots in the supply chain.
• Discuss strategies for managing and mitigating GHG emissions, such as adopting renewable energy, transportation optimisation, and reducing waste.

Session 4: Best Practices and Case Studies (Afternoon - 1.5 h)

• Share best practices from leading companies in supply chain sustainability and GHG emission reduction.

 Day 2:  Recap of Day 1 and Introduction to Day 2 (Morning - 30 min) 

Session 5: The UN Global Goals (2 h)

• Provide an overview of the 17 UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
• Explain the interlinkages between supply chain sustainability, GHG emission reduction, and the UN Global Goals.
• Discuss specific goals directly related to GHG emissions, such as Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
• Share examples in work groups of applying UN Global Goals in companies.

Session 6: Integrating UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into Supply Chain Sustainability Strategies (Mid-day - 2 h)

• Explore how organisations can prioritise and align their supply chain sustainability efforts with the UN Global Goals.
